A group of 12 hickory shafted irons, comprising three smooth-faced clubs i) a Forgan Mashie smooth-faced circa 1880, head reverse marked ‘R. Forgan & Son St Andrews’ in oval display, no face markings or pattern visible, original suede grip age worn, otherwise a stout club in good condition, shaft 37” to heel; head 3½” long, 1¾” deep (max); ii) a cleek 1880s, no markings, very slim head, very good condition, with leather grip, shaft 40½” to heel; head 3¼” long, 1 3/8” deep (max); iii) a wry-neck early slim headed putter circa 1905, markings very indistinct except ‘Arrow’ maker’s mark and ‘ACCURA..(TE?)’ on reverse face, plus (Warranted) ‘Hand Forged’, original leather grip, whipping section placed 4½” above hosel, condition very good, shaft 35” to heel; face 3½” long, 1½” deep (max); and nine marked face irons, i) a ‘DRIVEg IRON’ [sic] ‘M. Mitchell St Andrews Special’, slim face with dot pattern, head reverse marked all as such plus ‘Made in Scotland’ and ‘Warranted Hand Forged’ in oval mark, clubhead age-darkened, would easily brighten up, otherwise condition good, original or early grip, shaft 39” to heel; head 3½” long, 1 5/8” deep (max); ii) A Tom Stewart ‘3 IRON’, lines pattern face, reverse so marked plus ‘Pipe’ maker’s mark (Tom Stewart) and indistinct name plus ‘TS St. A. Reg.Trade Mark’ ‘SPECIAL’ ‘Hand Forged’ ‘Made in Scotland’, original or early worn grip, later whipping top & lower, shaft 37” to heel; head 4” long, 4½” deep (max). Overall condition very good; iii) a ‘DEEP FACE MASHIE’, head reverse so marked, dot pattern face, together with an indistinct maker’s mark, possibly the ‘Pipe’ mark denoting Tom Stewart, original or early suede grip, worn but good (later whipping at ends), overall condition good, shaft 37” to heel; head 3¼” long, 1 7/8” deep (max); IV) an ‘Anderson’ DEEP FACED MASHIE’, crossed lines and dot face pattern, reverse so marked The ‘ANDERSON’ just distinct, also ‘Special’ and ‘Warranted Hand Forged’, original grip worn but tight, some rust staining to head, otherwise very good condition, Shaft 34”to heel; head 3½” long, 1 5/8” deep (max); V) a Tom Stewart MASHIE, lines pattern face, reverse with ‘Pipe’ maker’s mark (T. Stewart), and ‘Geo. Rochester, Alnmouth’, also ‘Special’ and ‘T.S. St. A. Reg. Trade Mark’, original leather grip, age worn but tight, overall condition very good, shaft 34¼” to heel; head face 3” long, 1 5/8” deep (max); VI) a Forgan ‘MASHIE NIBLICK’, lines pattern face, reverse marked ‘Scotia ….ie Niblick’ (some indistinct) ‘Forgan & Son’ ‘Made in (Scotland)’, light coloured wood shaft, original leather grip good, very good condition, shaft 34¾” to heel; head 3¼” long, 1 7/8” deep (max); VII) a Cargills ‘MASHIE NIBLICK’, lines pattern face, shaft marked ‘K? Frost..’ (some indistinct) and head reverse ‘Cargills Limited Reg.’ ‘Mash*e Niblick’ ‘…Hosel’, original leather grip, sound club in very good condition, shaft 36” to heel; head face 3¼” long, 1¾” deep (max); VIII) a R. Norrie Kirkaldy ‘NIBLICK’,dot pattern face, reverse all so marked, plus ‘Warranted Hand Forged’ ‘Made in Scotland’, original suede grip, some head rust staining (will clean off) otherwise solid club, condition good, shaft 36” to heel; face 3¼” long, 2¼” deep (max).; ix) a ‘NIBLICK’, dot pattern face, possibly by Tom Stewart as face reverse shows possible trace of his ‘Pipe’ mark, plus distinct ‘NIBLICK’, rest indistinct, original leather grip of unusual pattern (diamond & square cut indents), head some rust staining (will clean off), whipping missing at lower end of shaft, but otherwise condition good, shaft 34¾” to heel; face 3¼” long, 2¼” deep (max)
