A silver cigarette box presented by the patrons of Harry Thomson Jones' Woodland Stables (including Lord Lucan) in Newmarket to Stan Mellor on the occasion of becoming the first National Hunt jockey to ride 1,000 winners achieved on Ouzo at Nottingham 18th December 1971, silver rectangular hinged box, the lid mounted with a silvered racing plate worn by Ouzo and inscribed TO STAN MELLOR FROM THE PATRONS OF WOODLANDS ON THE OCCASION OF IS 1000TH NATIONAL HUNT WINNER IN ENGLAND OUZO NOTTINGHAM DECEMBER 18TH 1971 with engraved facsimile signatures of the Woodland Stables patrons including Ouzo's owner Abram Smith Bowman and trainer Tom Jones, Newmarket, Lord Lucan, Dana Brudewell-Bruce, Bill Pilkington, Ann Pilkington, J. Reginald Hindley, John Jones, Stanhope Joel, J. Joel, Bunty Mitchell, Ida Steward, Mrs Miles Valentine, A.M. Gibson, Donald Steward, John Rogerson, Eileen Rogerson, James Chrichton-Stuart, Hugh McCalmont, Milton Ritzenberg and others, hallmarked London 1971 by Asprey & Co Ltd, 4.5 by 25 by 18cm., sold with a b & w press photograph of Stan Mellor and Ouzo going past the finishing post at Nottingham, glazed and framed, overall 39 by 31cm., the Nottingham race card for 18th December 1971 in which Stan Mellor won his 1000th on Ouzo in the 12:45 race, bearing handwritten annotation on the front STAN'S 1000TH, a colour press photograph of Stan Mellor up on Ouzo, mounted on card and titled OUZO STAN MELLOR'S THOUSANDTH WINNER, by WW Rough & Co London, overall 12 by 15in., colour photograph of Stan Mellor with his wife Elain celebrating the achievement, mounted on card and titled STAN MELLOR CELEBRATES HIS 1000TH, NOTTINGHAM DECEMBER 18TH 1971, overall 7 by 9in., b & w press photograph of Stan Mellor on board Lord Lucan's winner Le Merveilleux in the Elvaston Novices Steeple Chase at Nottingham on 2nd February 1971,bears handwritten annotation on reverse with typed legend, 10 by 8in., each bearing minor wear, (6) Provenance: The Stan Mellor Collection
