Civil Service Football Club cap awarded in 1909-10, the navy velvet cap with gilt tassel and braiding, embroidered with C.S.F.C. and the Civil Service crest and 1909-10 in cap peak, and 1902-03, 04-05, 06-07, 08-09, 1910-11 on the cap border, bears wear externally and internally with a split in the fabric above the crest and the silk lining deteriorated internally The original recipient of this cap is unknown. The Civil Service Football Club was formed in 1863 playing football under both the Association and Rugby rules and was one of the dozen founding sides of the FA. The Civil Service played a significant role in the introduction and popularization of the game of football in Europe early in the 1900s through touring and undertaking their first continental tour in 1901.
