F.A. International medal awarded to Arsenal's George Male on his England debut in the infamous 'Battle of Highbury' match v World Champions Italy 14th November 1934, hallmarked 14ct. gold, Birmingham,1934 by Vaughton & Sons, diameter 31mm., weight 29gr., of circular form with suspension ring, obverse with crest shield and THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION, reverse bears entwined FA letters and INTERNATIONAL banner, rim engraved E. V. I. 1934-35 C.G. MALE, h, with original brown leather fitted case, the hinged lid with gilt lettering THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION; sold with 'Illustrazione del Popolo newspaper, which shows a colour cartoon illustration of the fixture with frank Moss clearing from the Italian forwards, (2) England defeated Italy 3-2. This was George Male's international debut. Charles George Male played for England from 1934 to 1939, making 19 appearances. Provenance: Christies Auction June 1998.
