The colours of the late Hamdan Al Maktoum worn by Paul Hanagan when riding Taghrooda to victory in The Investec Oaks (In Memory of Sir Henry Cecil) at Epsom 6th June 2014, royal blue, white epaulets and striped cap, signed by Paul Hanagan and the filly’s trainer John Gosden in gold marker pen, sold with days racecard and Queen's Stand badge and four further race cards in which Taghrooda featured, including the King George Day 26th July 2014 Taghrooda was a bay filly by Sea The Stars out of the Sadler’s Wells mare Ezima foaled in 2011. She won 4 of her 6 career races, her other Group 1 victory being in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. On 24th March 2021 the racing world mourned the passing of Hamdan Al Maktoum who died aged 75. The Sheikh was one of the most prominent and influential in international horse racing for over 40 years. His most famous horse wold be the outstanding 1989 Derby winner Nashwan, his other winner in the Blue Riband of the Turf being Erhaab in 1994. Taghrooda was the last of his 13 English Classic winners. Hamdan Al Maktoum was champion Flat owner in Britain on nine occasions between 1990 and 2020. The Sheikh’s world class breeding operation Shadwell Stud has been crowned champion breeder in Britain on five occasions.
