Football League Division Two 1912-13 Championship medal awarded to Preston North End's Alf Common, hallmarked 15ct .gold, Birmingham 1912, by Thomas Fattorini Skipton & Bolton, of circular form with suspension ring, obverse with enamelled shields and banners THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE, reverse engraved CHAMPIONS DIV. II 1912-13 PRESTON NORTH END A. COMMON,, diameter 32mm., weight 20gr., with original fitted leather case, minor wear to exterior of case, minor surface scratches to medal, enamel good Alfred 'Alf' Common (1880-1949) English inside forward footballer, played for Preston North End from 1912 to 1914, making 35 appearances, scoring nine goals, he was capped three times for England from 1904 to 1906, scoring two goals. Alf Common caused a sensation when he became the first player to transfer between clubs for a fee of £1,000 in 1905. Middlesbrough FC the club with the long pockets!
