England cap awarded to Billy Wright for the international match v Sweden played at Arsenal FC’s Highbury ground in season 1947-48,the blue velvet cap with white tassel and black braiding, embroidered with the three lion emblem, THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION, SWEDEN 1947-48, the interior with brown silk lining and stitched name badge written in blue ink BILLY WRIGHT, good clean condition with little wear, some fading to black braidingEngland beat Sweden 4-2 at Highbury,19th November 1947.   William ‘Billy’ Ambrose Wright (1924-1994) made 105 appearances for England between 1946 and 1951, scoring three goals. He was the first England player to reach 100 caps and captained his country 90 times. He played for Wolverhampton Wanderers between 1939 and 1959, making 490 appearances and scoring 13 goals.Provenance: Christie's, 20th June 1998, lot 206.
