John Abernethy Lynas-Gray (1869-1937) A CRICKET MATCH IN THE LANE, circa 1896, depicting children playing cricket in a rural lane flanked by two thatched houses with colourful floral sprays, watercolour, signed and dated lower right margin, mounted, framed & glazed, 66 by 95cm. overall, good condition, minor wear to frame John Abernethy Lynas-Gray was a leading artist who depicted classic rural life in England during the late Victorian and Edwardian period. He was born in Oxton, Cheshire but later lived in Caernarvonshire and studied at the Liverpool School of Art and also in London. He painted mainly landscapes and genre pictures and exhibited at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and the Royal Cambrian Academy
