Stanley Matthews spelter figure, modelled as Stanley Matthews kicking a ball, raised upon a plinth base, inscribed STANLEY MATTHEWS, 24.5cm.Sir Stanley Matthews CBE (1915-2000) is regarded as one of the greatest players of the British game. An outside-right nicknamed 'The Wizard of the Dribble' and 'The Magician' and the first winner of both the European Footballer of the Year and Football Writers’ Player of the Year awards, he made 54 appearances for England between 1934 and 1957, scoring 11 goals and playing in the 1950 and 1954 World Cup finals. His clubs included his home town Stoke, Blackpool and Toronto City (on loan) in a playing career lasting from 1932 until 1965. The 1953 FA Cup Final in which he starred for Blackpool is still referred to as the 'Matthews Final'. He was Port Vale's manager from 1967-1968.
