Silver cigar box presented to Lester Piggott commemorating Right Boy, 1959, hallmarked Garrard & Co. Ltd, Birmingham 1959, with cedar wood-fitted interior, the lid inscribed with facsimile handwriting RIGHT BOY 1959. TO LESTER PIGGOTT FROM H.D.H.W.,  9 by 16cm. The initials on the lid inscription are those of  Hugh David Hamilton Wills (1917-1999), a philanthropist and racehorse owner- breeder who co-owned Right Boy with Geoffrey Gilbert. Right Boy was a top sprinter of the 1950s and in 1959, ridden by Lester Piggott, won the Cork & Orrery Stakes, July Cup, King George Stakes and Nunthorpe Stakes. Right Boy was originally trained by 1928 Grand National-winning jockey Bill Dutton and on his death in 1958 was taken over by his son-in-law Pat Rohan.Provenance: from the Lester Piggott Collection.
