Tom Thomas (1880-1911), born in Cardiganshire, Wales, had a career lasting from 1902-11 and in 1906 became the first national British Middleweight boxing champion, defeating Pat O’Keeffe for the title. In 1909 he beat Charlie Wilson to earn himself a place in boxing history as the first middleweight holder of a Lonsdale Belt but lost the title to Jim Sullivan in 1910. His fight record of 44 fights and 41 wins is not well documented. He suffered with rheumatism and died of heart failure, aged 31.
