1950s ephemera relating to Tom Whittaker and Arsenal FC, including Land Registry documents relating to Ida Bell Lane, Brookmans Park, Herts; an album of b&w photographs featuring a 1950s Mediterranean tour and documentation relating to Association Football Coach Tom Whittaker, Arsenal trainer on a South African tour, (qty) Tom Whittaker MBE (1898-1956) played for Arsenal in the early 1920s, making 70 appearances and scoring twice. In 1925 a broken knee-cap brought a premature end to his footballing career but, determined to stay in the game, he became Arsenal's first team trainer under Herbert Chapman two years later and continued as trainer and later manager of the North London club until his death in 1956. Under his guidance, Arsenal won two League titles and the1950 FA Cup. He was also a trainer for the England national team. Provenance: From the Tom Whittaker collection.
