Norman Edwards (British, 20th century, d 2002) SWISS TOURfootball caricature circa 1940s, pen and ink drawing with applied facial studies, signed lower right by the artist, pencil notes to upper margin, 14 by 56cm.; sold together with a copy of a Gazette cartoon by the same artist dated 14th January 1946, (2) Norman Edwards was based in Birmingham and spent many years working for Midland newspapers such as the Sports Argus and Birmingham Post. He became a local legend when he depicted charming images of sporting characters not only in professional football but in the amateur game too. Much of his artwork concentrated on Birmingham City and Aston Villa. Provenance: From the George Edwards Collection. Edwards played for Birmingham City from 1944 to 1948.
