Patinated bronze maquette of legendary Liverpool FC manager Bill Shankly, designed and sculpted by Tom Murphy, one of only five produced by the artist, the subject modelled with arms raised in typical pose, on square plinth base, back of right leg inscribed BILL SHANKLY TOM MURPHY, height 80cm.Tom Murphy's full size bronze stands outside Livepool FC's Anfield Ground.Tom Murphy has more than 30 items of public sculpture around Liverpool and the north west.   His work has been commissioned by Liverpoool, Everton and Tranmere Rovers Football Clubs, as well as companies and institutions including Carlsberg, Liverpool John Moores University, Rectella, Littlewoods, Merseytravel, Network Rail, Liverpool John Lennon Airport and various local authorities.   His most celebrated statues would include Bill Shankly at Anfield, Dixie Dean at Goodison Park, John Lennon at John Lennon Airport and Billy Fury in Albert Dock. Murphy was also commissioned for the poignant Hillsborough Monument Memorial.William (Bill) Shankly (Scottish 1913-1981), affectionately known simply as 'Shanks', played at right-half for Carlisle United and Preston North End, but is best remembered for his time as manager of Liverpool from 1959 to 1974. Shankly brought success to the Merseyside club, gaining it promotion to the First Division and winning three League Championships and the UEFA Cup. He laid foundations upon which his successors Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan were able to build by winning seven league titles and four European Cups in the ten seasons after Shankly retired in 1974. A charismatic, iconic figure at the club, he stirred the emotions of the fanbase, emphasising the importance of the Kop and making supporters feel like participants.
