Helen Mary Elizabeth Paterson (British, 1848-1926) ''Croquet under Difficulties'', original engraving from The Illustrated London News, 4th August 1871. signed H. Paterson in the plate lower left corner, mounted, 35.4 by 44.8cm.; sold together with a Slazenger & Sons London cast iron regulation hoop gauge, 5.2 by 11cm., some wear to the white paint (2) Helen Paterson born on 26th September 1848, married William Allingham in 1874 and died on 28th September 1926. She became a very successful painter in watercolours as Helen Allingham, first woman artist to be elected to the Royal Watercolour Society in 1890. A recent exhibition of her work was held at the Watts Gallery, Guildford, in November 2017 to February 2018.
