A fine crazy patchwork with embroidery dated 1889 incorporating sporting motifs of a tennis racquet and ball, cricket bat with ball and stumps, as well as the sun, flowers, leaves, cobweb, jug, and bird in a cage, framed and glazed, 53.5cm. square, in good overall condition with slight fading and wear to edges This piece was illustrated in colour in ''Good Housekeeping The Illustrated Book of Needlecrafts'' edited by Cecelia K Toth, Hearst Books, New York, 1994. q.v.
