This lot is being auctioned on behalf of the Hurlingham Polo Association and the proceeds will go to The Polo Charity Trust: The first book published on the game of polo: Captain George John Younghusband's ''Polo in India'', scarce, 8vo, 94 pages excluding preface, contents, advertisements etc., original red & beige cloth with gilt titling, published by W.H. Allen & Co, London, 1890, generally good copy, damage to cloth top & bottom of spine, minor marks and stains Sir George John Younghusband, KCMG, KCIE, CB (9 July 1859 - 30 September 1944) was a cavalry officer and major-general in the British Indian Army and served in several conflicts with the Guides Cavalry before being forced to retire due to wounds received on the battlefield in the First World War in 1917. In later life King George V appointed Younghusband as the Keeper of the Jewel House at the Tower of London, a post he retained until his death.
