American sterling silver polo trophy by Tiffany & Co., New York, dated 1891, in the form of a silver vase, stamped STERLING, 10989M5084, 2 GILLS, inscribed in an Art Nouveau script OYSTER BAY POLO CLUB, JULY 13th 1891, WON BY, MORRIS COUNTY COUNTRY CLUB, G.L. DAY, W.K. THORN, W.B. LORD, B. NICOLL, the reverse decorated with a polo player & polo, foliate decoration to lower bowl, height 16cm., weight 193gr. Oyster Bay Polo Club in Long Island, New York, affiliated with the Polo Association of America in June 1890. it was one of three clubs on Long Island, the others being Meadow Brook and Rockaway. Theodore Roosevelt, W.H. Coles, Henry von M Meyer, Nathan Howard Thorp were recorded players at Oyster Bay.
