A general work or stud shoe worn by Carry Back, winner of the 1961 Kentucky Derby, mounted on a wooden shield, with a mounted engraved plaque and picture, 45.5 x 30.5 cm; together with a Turf & Sport Digest magazine from April 1963 which features a picture of Carry Back on the front cover, (2) Carry Back (1958-83) was a very popular US Hall of Fame racehorse who won 21 of his 61 races, including the 1961 Kentucky Derby, ridden by Johnny Sellers. Small of stature and unfashionably bred, he was famed for his ''come from behind'' style of racing and considered the best of his generation as a three-year-old. Unusually for US-trained horses of that era, he was sent to contest the 1962 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, where he finished unplaced under Scobie Breasley. Known affectionately as ''The People's Choice'', Carry Back retired to stud in 1963 but with limited success.
