BROWN, 1925-6, in original fitted case stamped gilt THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE The Wednesday won the 2nd Division title with a total of 60 points, 3 clear of Derby County. After an undistinguished career in semi-professional football in his native north-east England, Brown joined Sheffield Wednesday as a scout before taking up an appointment as secretary of Portsmouth in 1911. In May 1920 he was all set to manage Gillingham in their first season of League football but resigned to return to Sheffield Wednesday. Having gained the Yorkshire club promotion in 1925-26 he was at the helm for the club's back-to-back League Division One Championship titles in 1928-29 and 1929-30.
