Frank Piercy's West Ham United FC London Football Combination winner's medal season 1920-21, 15ct. gold, inscribed LONDON FOOTBALL COMBINATION, WEST HAM UNITED F.C., F. PIERCY, 1920-21, in replacement case Frank Piercy began his career at Middlesbrough before transferring to West Ham United in 1904 together with team-mate Christopher Carrick. Nicknamed The Old War Horse, Piercy was uncompromising in the tackle and was regularly in trouble with referees for this and other disciplinary issues. He was the first 'hammer' to clock up 200 appearances. After his playing career finished through injury in 1912, Piercy became assistant trainer at the club under Charlie Paynter with responsibility for the reserves team, hence the presentation of this London Football Combination medal in season 1920-21.
