Melbourne 1956 Olympic Games cased ceramic plaque for the United Team of Germany, circular, bearing Olympic Rings, laurel and Olympic motto, the reverse inscribed MELBOURNE, 1956, GESAMTDEUTSCHE OLYMPIANSCHAFT, diameter 9cm., the velvet lined fitted case with Olympic Rings in gilt This plaque was awarded to Gunther Brenneke, a bronze medallist in the field hockey competition following Germany's defeat of Great Britain in the 3rd/4th play-off match. Brenneke, a midfielder, played 46 times internationally between 1951 and 1960. He had also competed at the Helsinki 1952 Olympic Games.
