A pair of Cambridge University Championship Racquet Medals awarded to Philip Wyndham Cobbold (1875-1945) of Trinity College in 1896, both encased in glass with a white metal rim (possibly silver) and are supplied in their original silk-lined cases by D. Munsey, Goldsmith and Watch Maker, Cambridge. Medal Diameter 5cm. Following victories in the singles and doubles rackets championships at Eton School, Cobbold then represented Cambridge at the same sport. He was described as, ''?one of the those players to whom grace at ball games comes naturally.'' He also represented his university at real tennis. Following a stint as captain of the Suffolk County Cricket team he became Mayor of Ipswich, on two occasions. His family had direct links with the development of Cobbold's famous brewery and Ipswich Town Association Football Club.
