FIFA Congress badge for Guadalajara, Mexico, 1968 issued to the FIFA coach Dettmar Cramer, gilt-metal & enamel, printed name set into bar Dettmar Cramer was a distinguished ambassador for German football, coaching and managing in 90 countries and was personally honoured by Emperor Hirohito for services to Japan. Japan had never competed in the World Cup. However, in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, guided by Cramer, they defeated Argentina. A year later he helped establish a national league. He then returned to Germany to assist the West German team at the 1966 World Cup in England, whilst centrally contracted to FIFA. In 1974 Cramer assisted West Germany coach Helmut Schoen, when the home nation beat Netherlands in the Final in Munich. The following Spring he was in charge of Bayern Munich who retained the European Cup by defeating Don Revie's Leeds United in a controversial match played in Paris.
