Charity Shield was played at White Hart Lane and contested between the winners of the Football League Division One and Two titles West Bromwich Albion and Tottenham Hotspur. Albion won the game 2-0. It is their only outright win in the competition. They later shared the spoils in 1954. Jesse Pennington said that this was his proudest football medal, approving of the Football Association's commitment to charities benefiting from the game.
