A family photograph album relating to the Newmarket stable lad Leo Grimes who looked after 'Sweet Solera' and other noteworthy racehorses, Grimes worked for Reg Day, Cecil Boyd-Rochfort, Tom Waugh, and Harry & Geoff Wragg, other horses featured in the photographs include Le Dieu D'Or. Persian Gulf, Bourbon Topsy, Minneo, Amaranda and others, the album also containing four jockey licences 1959-1962 inc., a certificate for 'Sweet Solera' being the best turned out filly in the 1961 1,000 Guineas; and an interesting letter from a solicitor asking Grimes if we would be prepared to be a witness in the case of the racehorse owner Miss Rachel Mary Parsons who was murdered in Newmarket in 1956; also included in the lot is a framed W.W. Rouch portrait photograph of the 1945 wartime St Leger winner Chamossaire; two Cheveley Park Stud stallion brochures 1932 & 1965; a 1911 colour postcard Newmarket Heath; and five racing books, the earliest being George Hodgman's Sixty Years On The Turf, 1903 (a qty.)
