Peter Biegel (1913-1988) 'ARKLE' AT KEMPTON PARK signed, inscribed with title Kempton Race Course - Stable and dated 27-12-66, pencil and watercolour and bodycolour on grey paper, 30.5 by 35.5cm., framed These scenes by Biegel depict Arkle's final racecourse appearance. Arkle raced in the 1966 King George VI Chase at Kempton Park but struck the guard rail with a hoof when jumping an open ditch, which resulted in a fractured pedal bone. Despite this injury, he completed the race and finished second. But despite four months in plaster and a return to training, the decision was made to retire the great champion.
