Wilkes & Son black & white archival print The Arsenal side that beat West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns on 30 January 1935 on the way to winning a third successive Division One title. Included in this line-up are several Arsenal legends, including Ted Drake (who set the Arsenal record number of goals in a season, 44, in 1934-35, Leslie Compton (273 appearances), Joe Hulme (374), Cliff Bastin (396) and Eddie Hapgood (404). Manager George Allison completed the title treble start by Herbert Chapman, who died suddenly in January 1934 Wilkes & Sons Sporting Photographs Albert Wilkes set up his sporting photography business in the late 1890s while still a footballer with Aston Villa, having previously played for West Bromwich Albion and Walsall. Wilkes played for Villa from 1897-1907 and won five caps for England. Albert Junior joined the business during the 1st World War and took over when his father died suddenly in 1936. Albert sold the Wilkes & Son collection, mainly glass plates, to Colorsport at the start of the seventies.
