Godfrey Evans MCC blazer from the England cricket tour to South Africa 1956-57, Simpson tailored Daks, navy blue wool with 'egg & bacon' trim, breast pocket silkwork crest featuring St George slaying the dragon and inscribed within a scroll 1956 - SOUTH AFRICA - 1957, some damage to the interior cloth lining, but not visible from outside Described by Wisden as 'arguably the best wicket-keeper the game has ever seen', Evans collected 219 dismissals in 91 Test Matches between 1946 and 1959 and a total of 1,066 in all first-class matches. En route he was the first wicket keeper to reach 200 Test dismissals and the first Englishman to reach both 1,000 runs and 100 dismissals and 2,000 runs and 200 dismissals in Test cricket. The Kent 'keeper was a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1951. Evans played in all five Tests during the 1956-57 South African Tour. The series ended as a 2-2 draw during which he took a total of 20 dismissals, a record for his career.
