A collection of five cased tennis medals, including two bronze Cambridge University lawn tennis medals originally awarded to Ken Gandar Dower (see footnote) in 1928 & 1929; a hallmarked silver LTA county juniors medal won by H Robins in 1965; and two modern issues, real tennis 2000 & USA Court Tennis Association open doubles finalist 2004; the lot also including a Franklin Mint 100th Wimbledon Championships, 1977, in original paper sleeve; three miscellaneous uncased medals; a Lawn Tennis Umpires' Association of Great Britain badge; a qty. of white metal blazer buttons all bearing tennis emblems; a Victorian belt buckle with crossed racquets; and a tennis trophy cup, attractively designed albeit in non-precious metal Ken Gandar Dower was an exceptional sportsman from Harrow & Cambridge who won blues in billiards, lawn tennis, real tennis, Rugby fives, Eton fives and rackets, later became British amateur squash champion in 1938, beat Harry Hopman at law tennis at Queens. Professionally he was a pilot & explorer. He was killed in the Second World War when in 1944 his ship was sunk by a Japanese sub in the Indian Ocean, along with 1,296 other lives.
