A group of four caps awarded to the famous early England amateur international G.O. [Gilbert Oswald] Smith, i) Smith's debut England international cap v Ireland in 1893 ii) Corinthians cap 1891-92 iii) Oxford University Association Football Club cap iv) black, red & gold Oxford University Authentics cricket cap Gilbert Oswald Smith (25 November 1872 - 6 December 1943), familiarly known as G.O. Smith, was a nineteenth-century amateur footballer and considered to be the first great centre-forward. Smith was educated at Charterhouse School and played at club level for Corinthians. A school-teacher by profession, Smith was captain of England and his finest performance was perhaps his four goals in the 13-2 defeat of Ireland in 1899. An all-round sportsman, he also played for first-class cricket for Surrey and Oxford University.
