During the practice sessions in Sweden, however, he was involved in an unfortunate incident with a policeman. Stokes was about to take a wrong turn on the course and in his attempt to redirect Stokes the policeman accidentally hit and broke the British rider's wrist with his truncheon. Stokes was forced to withdraw from the Games.
