£1,500 - £2,500
The pre-parade No.4 saddlecloth worn by Frankel before his victory in the QIPCO 2,000 Guineas Stakes at Newmarket 30th April 2011, SIGNED BY LORD GRIMTHORPE, signature in silver marker pen, the dark blue cloth bearing the sponsor's British Champions Series logo and inscribed FRANKEL; sold together with a signed letter of provenance and a related photograph (3) On 30 April 2011, Frankel was the shortest-priced favourite in the Classic since 1974 at odds of 1/2. He jumped straight to the lead, was completely dominant and had the rest of the field training in his wake and off the bridle after only three furlongs. By half way Frankel increased his lead to 15 lengths eventually winning by six lengths, the biggest winning margin since Tudor Minstrel in 1947. The performance was described by one commentator as ''barely believable''.
