A horse hoof inkwell, the hinged lid inscribed GREY MARE, ''NANCY'', THE PROPERTY OF Mr. S. TEMPLEMAN, BURNBY, 1867 Templeman's home, Burnby House, near Pocklington, was built on the proceeds of his riding career which he invested wisely purchasing further properties and extensive land in the Burnby, Hayton & Pocklington areas. A further house he built was named Bloomsbury after his Derby winner. Nancy was presumably a favourite hack Templeman would ride. The former jockey was aged 62 when the mare died. Provenance: Sim Templeman, and hence by family descent.
