The red silk jacket worn by Sim Templeman when winning The Oaks at Epsom in 1847 aboard Sir Joseph Hawley's Miami, in good condition apart from discolouration in the under arm area Sir Joseph Hawley was a very successful racehorse owner winning the Derby on four occasions Teddington (1851), Beadsman (1858), Musjid (1858) & Blue Gown (1868). He had single winners of the two Guineas, the filly Aphrodite in 1851 and the colt Fitz-Roland in 1858. Miami was his only Oaks winner, and he completed his grand slam of Classic wins with Pero Gomez's victory in the 1869 St Leger. Provenance: Sim Templeman, and hence by family descent.
