Juan Manuel Fangio 1952 Argentinean lightweight race helmet, the blue gel-coat over a fibre-glass shell supported by cross webbing with cloth lining,
£3,000 - £5,000
Juan Manuel Fangio 1952 Argentinean lightweight race helmet, the blue gel-coat over a fibre-glass shell supported by cross webbing with cloth lining, thick brown leather peak, trimming and chin strap in black leather with integral ear protection and metal acoustic diaphragms, studs and buckles rusting, made in Argentina; offered with a documented message of provenance from Jose Maria Munoz (2). Provenance: Originally presented by Fangio to Argentinean broadcaster, sports reporter and honorary ACA member Jose Maria Munoz during a radio interview with him in 1977, the helmet was reputed to have been used by the then current F1 World Champion during his 1952 international race season, which began with seven South American races before moving on to Europe. Fangio would go on to take a further four F1 World titles over the following five years, thereby establishing a record that Michael Schumacher would eventually surpass, but not until 2004. The helmet was subsequently acquired by the San Siro Museum, Milan.
