The trophy for the 1919 Derby Stakes, a silver-gilt trophy cup & cover, hallmarked R & S Garrard & Co., London, 1909, the body inscribed ''GRAND PARADE'', VICTORY DERBY, 1919, height 36cm., 14in.; sold together with a silk Derby scarf commemorating Grand Parade's 1919 Derby victory (2) Known as the 'Victory Derby', the 'Blue Riband of the Turf' returned to Epsom Downs in 1919 with the race being ran at Newmarket during the First World War years. The race was won by the shipping magnate Lord Glanely with his colt Grand Parade trained by Frank Barling at Newmarket and ridden by Fred Templeman. A highly successful owner, Lord Glanely owned winners of all five English Classics including two wins in the St Leger. See lot 145 as an item of similar interest.
