A rare and early item of Duncan Edwards memorabilia: an English Schools' F.A. 'Schools Internationals' certificate for The Victory Shield Competition in May 1952, completed in beautiful manuscript calligraphy, named to D. EDWARDS and certifying that he was selected LEFT HALF FOR ENGLAND v WALES, BIRMINGHAM, 3rd MAY 1952, signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the English Schools F.A., the crests of the four home nations schools' F.A.'s decorate each corner, 20 by 33cm., 8 by 13in. Duncan Edwards is the only England schoolboy international to have played over the course of three years, 1950, 1951 & 1952 at U-15 level His debut for England Boys was v. N. Ireland at Oldham 6 May 1950, at the age of 13. He made four further appearances in 1951 and was captain for the four appearances he made in 1952 including the 5-1 win over Wales at Birmingham City's St Andrews Ground for which the present certificate was issued. His ninth and final match was on 1st September 1952, precisely a calendar month before his 16th birthday.
