A racquet used by Arthur Ashe at Wimbledon in his winning year of 1975, a silver Head Arthur Ashe Competition 2 Boron Flex racquet, B35771, P235, with head cover; sold with a signed letter of provenance from the seller and three related photographs from 1975 (5) The seller of the racquet was a member of The Hurlingham Club and in 1975 attended the annual pre-Wimbledon Championships garden party, where Arthur Ashe played an exhibition match and pledged to donate a racquet that he would be playing with at the 1975 Championships, to be auctioned for charity which would be left at John Lloyd's Wimbledon home to be collected by the successful bidder after the tournament. The seller in this auction was the winning bidder in 1975 and the racquet has remained in the seller's possession until the present day. The photographs in this lot were taken at the Hurlingham Garden Party and one shows Arthur Ashe sitting on the grass.
