Jimmy Rimmer's Manchester United 1968 European Cup winner's medal, continental .750 gold & enamel by Peka, inscribed COUPE DES CLUBS CHAMPIONS EUROPEENS, VAINQUEUR, 1968, and engraved JIMMY RIMMER Provenance: Bought at Christie's in 2003. Jimmy Rimmer was on the substitute's bench for the 1968 European Cup Final. Rimmer was for the large part understudy to Alex Stepney as the Manchester United goalkeeper and made a total of 46 appearances between 1965 and 1974. Arsenal then signed him with a view to an eventual replacement for Bob Wilson and made a total of 146 starts for the Gunners. He then joined Aston Villa in 1977 and while at Villa Park was the recipient of a Championship medal and a second European Cup winner's medal of his career. In the final we was injured and replaced after 9 minutes, and so has been awarded Europe's top club honour on two occasions for nine minutes of participation.
