John Beer (1860-1930) GRAND MILITARY GOLD CUP, SANDOWN PARK, 1906 (A PAIR), both signed and titled, watercolour heightened with gouache, the first portraying Royal Blaze jumping the water ahead of Kirkby, the second portraying the winner Royal Blaze with Capt. Leon Denny up, both 19 by 30cm., 7 ? by 12in., mounted, framed and glazed The winning jockey Capt. Denny was killed in action in 1915 during the First World War. The rider who finished third, Admiral Cradock, also died when his ship HMS Good Hope was sunk.
