The winner's trophy for the Women's Singles at the 1910 US National Indoor Championship won by the British player Nora Schmitz-Meyer, an American sterling silver dish by The Mauser Co., New York, with pierced borders, engraved laurel wreaths and NS monogram and inscribed FIRST PRIZE, WOMEN'S SINGLES, NATIONAL INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP, 1910, diameter 26cm., 10in.; sold together with three computer screen grab printed photographs of Nora Schmitz-Meyer (4) Better known in reference books under the name of her American husband [Mrs] Frederick G Schmitz, the New York Times cast doubt on whether her success was a British victory: ''While Mrs Schmitz came from England originally she is not originally an English champion now. She married Frederick Schmitz four years ago, and learned tennis in this country, so that any talk of the cup she won yesterday [for the US National Indoors] going to England is entirely without foundation.''
