A.P.'s most recent milestone was riding his 4,000th winner during the 2013/14 season. When Peter Scudamore retired in 1993 he had raised the bar to 1,678 career wins over jumps albeit at a time before all year round racing under National Hunt Rules. A.P.McCoy's first season in England was as a conditional rider to Toby Balding's yard in 1994-95 and he finished this as leading rider in this intermediate level with 74 wins. Thereafter Tony McCoy has been Champion Jockey for a remarkable 19 seasons in succession. In 1997-98 he surpassed Scudamore's seasonal best of 221 wins winning 253 races and in 2001-02 became the winning-most jockey in a season on the flat or over jumps recording 289 victories, beating Sir Gordon Richards's long standing total of 269 flat race winners set in 1947.
