Bobby Moore: a white England No.6 jersey circa 1961, by Bukta, short-sleeved, v-neck collar, navy blue No.6 to the reverse, applied with a later period 'three lions' badge, colour fade; sold together with a signed manuscript letter of provenance from Bobby Moore on paper headed BOBBY MOORE, 29/31 REDCHURCH STREET, LONDON, E.2, dated 20th January [1972] and reading Dear Mr Thornberry, Many thanks for your letter of the 11th January and I can assure you the shirt that was auctioned last year was one of my personal shirts, yours sincerely, Bobby Moore; the lot also including a 20th November 1996 Christie's Glasgow football memorabilia auction catalogue where this jersey & letter was purchased as lot 212 (3) This style of Bukta shirt was used at the beginning of the 1960s which would coincide with Bobby Moore's Under-23 England career. Moore wore the No.6 shirt on seven occasions between his debut v Denmark at Maine Road 21st September 1960 and the away fixture v Netherlands at Stadion Feijenoord 29th November 1961. However, it should be noted that a period England 'three lions' badge for an U-23 international would have had the word INTERMEDIATE enclosed in a scroll underneath, making certain that the present badge has been applied at a later date.
