A Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games gold winner's prize medal awarded to the Hungarian footballer Sandor Katona, in gold plated silver, designed by Toshitaka Koshiba and struck by the Japanese Mint, inscribed with legend and the sport in English FOOTBALL, in original black lacquer box gilt, hinge at rear in need of repair, presentation ribbon preserved but separated from the medal; sold together with Sandor Katona's ID Card from the Tokyo Games, and a later colour photograph of him taking part in a veterans' football match (3) Sandor Katona was born in Budapest 21st February 1943. The left-winger joined Budapest Honved in season 1961-62. After six seasons he transferred to Ferencvaros where he played until 1970-71. Katona played in every game during Hungary's triumphant Olympic football campaign at Tokyo in 1964. In the gold medal match Hungary defeated Czechoslovakia 2-1. Sandor Katona died in Budapest 16th May 2009.
