A very scarce and early international rugby programme for the Scotland v England match played at Academical Cricket Ground, Raeburn Place, Edinburgh, 19th March 1881, this being only the third game in Calcutta Cup history, a threepence match card printed one side, annotated by the original owner to the lower margin with the names of friends and family who accompanied him to the match, the programmes has been lightly and safely taped at the upper corners to a backing card which has been pasted with a separate surviving annotation from the 1881 spectator recording that England's Lennard Stokes ''Kicked a goal from the middle of the ground into crowd'' Provenance: professionally removed from an album leaf of the Ballantine Dykes family of Doveby Hall, Cumberland, who were connected to the De Tessier family. Both families were prominent in sports, rugby, cricket etc.
