A 9ct. gold & enamel medal for The Hospital Charity Football Challenge Cup won by Arthur Dominy of Southampton FC, competition undated but the gold bears the date stamp for 1922, the reverse inscribed A.A. DOMINY, in original Hampshire Football Association case Arthur Dominy was born at South Stoneham, Southampton 11th February 1893. He joined Southampton FC from local football in 1913 and made a total of 334 League appearances for The Saints, a figure that would have been significantly higher had it not been for the interruption of the First World War. The inside forward also netted 133 League goals. Dominy was signed by Everton in March 1928 as a strike partner for club legend Dixie Dean. They also struck up a close friendship off the pitch. He finished his playing days with spells at Gillingham, Clapton Orient and Newport (IoW). Dominy then returned to Southampton as manager during the wartime period 1943-1946. After Bill Dodgin took over the reins, Arthur Dominy maintained a life long association with the club and was the chief steward at the Supporters' Club. Arthur Dominy died at Mitcham, Surrey, 23rd September 1974 aged 81.
