Memorabilia relating to James Wilson, early athlete and Glasgow Rangers football trainer, including items relating to his athletics career in the mid 1880, various winner's rosettes including most notably an example with a manuscript inscription for a meeting at Ibrox Park in 1904 when the athlete Shrubb broke the world record for two miles recording a time of 9 minutes 9.6 seconds; also a Bellahouston Harriers official's badge, a later invitation to the Highland Games in 1903, any various press cuttings; the lot including a letter from Willie Baird captain of St Bernards FC trying to convince Wilson to stay at the club, and also a letter of reference given to Wilson by the club, also in Wilson's own hand a two page summary of his career written shortly before his death, plus further press cuttings, also typed transcripts of some of the correspondence (a qty.) John Wilson started as an athlete before becoming one of the leading football trainers of his time. He first joined St Bernards as trainer in 1894-95 and had immediate success winning the Scottish Cup, the only occasion the club ever did so before their eventual demise in 1941-42. He then joined Glasgow Rangers in 1897 and up until the First World War he brought to the club seven Scottish League Championship titles, two Scottish Cup wins, eight Glasgow Cups and seven Glasgow Charity Cup.
