A Victorian golfing prize that curiously has a lawn tennis theme, In the form of a Victorian oak and plated metal desk top paper clip with a pair of spring-mounted lob-sided lawn tennis rackets and tennis balls, the oak base applied with an engraved plaque WORCESTERSHIRE GOLF CLUB HANDICAP, 3rd PRIZE WON BY, E.F. CHANCE, the clip engraved GROSS 84, LESS 7, NET 77, length 12cm., 5in.; sold together with scans of related newspaper cuttings (2) Of note is that this trophy was won by 21 year-old Edward Ferguson Chance of the Chance Glassworks Empire. The company famously provided the glass for the Crystal Palace at the Great Exhibition in Hyde Park in 1851. This handicap was competed for in 1883 at Worcestershire Golf Club located at Malvern Wells and where Chance served a spell as Captain.
