The collection of the British Olympic gymnast Charles Alfred Vigurs, comprising: i) a 1912 Stockholm Olympic Games participant's lapel badge, in pink paper box ii) A cased 1912 Stockholm Olympic Games participation medal, in white metal, the obverse designed by Erik Lindberg with Zeus seated on an Ionian column holding the figure of Nike, a view of Stockholm beyond, the reverse with Bertram Mackennal's 1908 Games design of a victorious athlete riding in a quadriga, cast by Vaughton of Birmingham iii) A 1912 Olympic Games commemorative bronze plaque with view of the stadium in Stockholm Olympic Stadium Plaque, in original paper box iv) a 9ct. gold & enamel medal named to Charles Vigurs, issued by the Birmingham Athletic Institute for winning the Adams Shield [British Senior Men's Gymnastics Team Championship] in 1909, in original fitted case v) a bronze medal for gymnastics at the Brussels International Exhibition of 1910, in original paper box; sold together with; vi, vii, viii & ix) two First World War service medals (one with paper box lid preserved) both with Vigurs's name engraved to the edge, his WW1 death plaque, and his enamelled metal battalion badge Charles Alfred Vigurs (11 July 1888 - 22 February 1917) was a British gymnast who competed in the London & Stockholm Olympic Games of 1908 and 1912. He was a member of the men's team that finished 8th In London in 1908 but who won bronze at Stockholm in 1912. Vigurs was killed in action during the First World War serving as a private with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, 11th Bn. near Grenay. He was buried in the Maroc British Cemetery.
